Pulborough 6th October
It was the last event of the season for Nelson and Sunshine. We all thought it would be cancelled after waking up to torrential rain but luckily it eased and the event went ahead, although we didn’t have the best day after Nelson was retired after a stop in the water but he was jumping well up until then and his dressage improved from last week. Sunshine was very unlucky to fall after he tripped going into the water and he too was going well after a good dressage mark of 32 and jumped a great clear SJ. We will look forward to next season.
Dauntsey Park 28th September
After not being able to run at South of England we managed to get Denny in the Intermediate Novice class at Dauntsey. He performed very well despite the very wet conditions, jumping well to finish in 6th place.
South of England 22nd - 23rd September
Sunshine was back at his best coming 7th in his first BE100 after jumping a fantastic double clear to remain on his dressage score of 33. Nelsons dressage test was slightly dissapointing as we know he is capable of acheiving better marks but he went on to jump well.
We went back on the Sunday for Denny but unfortunately the heavy rain caused the organiseres to cancel after the dressage.
Munstead 16th September
We took Nelson and Sunshine to Munstead. Nelson continued his good form coming 5th in the BE100Open after jumping a great double clear. Sunshine wasn't quite at his best after having 3 poles down we decided not to run him on the firm ground and save him for next week.
Blenhiem Palace International 6th - 9th September
It was a quick turnaround after Burghley to get Cooly to Blenheim for the CCI***. He worked in beautifully but was maybe slightly overworked in the warm up left him a bit tired for his test, losing out on the good marks he is capable of achieving and deserves.
XC was strong with a few 3½* combinations. He set off full or running, making little work of the course, as he was feeling good, Tom said he got greedy and asked him for too much coming out of the first water resulting in 20 penalties which was a shame as they were up on the time at that point. He went on to jump the rest feeling confident and is good to know he is capable of competing at the highest level as he proved by coming out the next day and jumping a fantastic clear. 2013 looks to be a promising year for him having now gained 4* qualification.
Landrover Burghley Horse Trials 30th August - 2nd September
It was Red’s second consecutive outing at Burghley. As for many, preparations were hampered by the weather and forced cancellations. However he was in good form after a run at Hartpury CIC*** and continued this by producing his best dressage test at 4* level of 53.7 and we know that there is still more to come and improve on for next time.
The course was a true 4*, Mark Phillips track, big and bold and caused many problems. Red made it look and feel easy but timing was an issue so wasn’t quite as competitive as we would have liked but speed is something to work on over the winter!
He came out the next day feeling fresh and ready for the show jumping. He jumped a great round and was unlucky to have the bogey fence down which caused problems for so many others. Finishing just outside the top 20 has left us with a lot to look forward to in 2013 as we know there is certainly more to come.
Firle 25th August
Tom took Sunshine to his first event to do the BE90. He did very well to get 32.5 in his dressage then jumped a lovely double clear. Had he not been HC he would have been placed 2nd! We are hoping he continues to well when moving to BE100 at Munstead in a few weeks. We also had Dreamer at Firle who once a again was placed in the top 10 after a great jumping double clear, finishing in 7th place.
Hartpury International 9th - 12th August
We had a very good few days with Cooly in the CCI**. After a great dressage test he was in 16th position on a score of 50.9. He jumped a fantastic double clear ending up 10th place. Red was also here in the CIC*** as a final run before Burghley. He started well getting 52.7 for his dressage in the main indoor arena, but was unlucky to have a fence down SJ, which was mainly due to bitting problems. He then jumped clear round XC just quite steady. Apart from Cooly's success there was another reason to celebrate as it was Emily's 20th birthday!!
Chilham Castle 5th August
Dreamer was entered in the BE100Plus and did well to get a score of 32.5 in her first Novice test. She jumped well and was unlucky to have one fence down SJ. She had another top 10 finish in 8th place.
Aston-le-Walls 20th - 23rd July
Both Red and Cooly were entered in the Advanced section as a final run before Hartpury. Red just went for combined training as the ground was too soft for him. Cooly finished in 10th place after a 36.8 dressage and a steady double clear.
Tweseldown 3rd July
Cooly went to Tweseldown to compete in the OI as an easy run after Bramham. He had to cope with the air show flying overhead during his dressage test and did well to get 36.4. He then went and jumped double clear with just a few time penalties to finish 12th.
Rackham 23rd June
We just had Dreamer at Rackham in the BE100. She did very well to finish 5th and remain on her dressage score of 32 after a great double clear inside the time. Hopefully she will progress up the levels to Novice soon.
Bramham 7th/10th June
We took Red and Cooly to Bramham for the CCI***. It was Cooly and Toms first 3 day event together. Weather made conditions difficult but organisers made a huge effort to keep the event running.
Red did a nice test to get 57.2 and we were slightly disappointed with Cooly after his great test at Houghton a few weeks ago. Both horses jumped well XC considering the ground which caused alot of horses to finish very tired. Red jumped a steady clear and Cooly had to circle in the water resulting in 20 penalties. We decide not to show jump Cooly the next day as he was tired after the tough XC the day before. After the trot up Red went on to have 3 down SJ in what proved to be a very tough SJ course with only 5 clear rounds out of 44.
Eridge 1st June
Another great result for Dreamer in the BE100 at Eridge. After a brilliant dressage test of 29.5 she went on to jump a fantastic double clear ending up finishing in 3rd position.
Houghton 24th/27th May
The week started off very well with Cooly winning the combined training class after his his best dressage to date getting 42 in a 4* test and then going on to jump clear inside the time. Unfortunately Red was unable to compete after getting an abcess in his front foot but he will be at Bramham to the CCI*** along with Cooly. Paddy did a good dressage test and jumped well to only have 1 pole down but the hard ground didn't suit him so retired him xc.
Aston-Le-Walls 8th May
Finally managed to get to an event after so many cancellations due to the bad weather. Organisers did well to run an extra day after previous days had tpo be abandoned. We took Paddy, Cooly and Denny to do the intermediate class. Cooly did the best of the three getting 35.9 in the dressage and jumping clear SJ and then a quick clear XC round. Denny did well but had 3 down SJ as he prefers jumping off firmer ground.
Hambledon 20th/22nd April
Heavy rain made conditons difficult for David and Dreamer, so we decided not to run Dreamer. However David did very well to jump clear XC and have just the 1 pole down to finish in 6th position.
We were meant to have Cooly, Denny and Paddy there on the Sunday but more heavy rain meant they had to abandon the event.
South of England 14th/15th April
Dreamer and David were competing in the BE100 on the Saturday at South of England. Dreamer jumped very well to remain on her dressage score of 31.0 to finish in 3rd place, her best result to date. David did a very nice dressage test to get 27.5 but unfortunately had 1 down SJ and a unlucky run out XC, but he continues to progress well and will be aiming for his first Novice at Aston-Le-Walls in a few weeks time.
On Sunday, Cooly, Red and Paddy were running in the AI and Denny in the OI. All managed decent dressage tests despite only having a 15 min warm up beforehand! Red and Cooly both did well to finish in the top 10. Paddy was retired XC after a stop at the water but jumped a nice SJ round. Denny also jumped well, his SJ is continuing to improve, jumping alot better after having 2 fences down early on.
Belton 30th March/1st April
We had Cooly and Red in the CIC*** and Paddy in the Advanced at Belton. Cooly really improved on his dressage to get 56.1 and went on to jump a very good clear SJ and a steady but clear XC on a course which caused plenty of problems for others. Red and Paddy were slightly off form but will be back fighting fit for their next event.
Munstead 24th/25th March
David and Dreamer continued their good start to the season both finishing in the top 20. Dreamer started very well with a 29.5 dressage, was unlucky to have 1 down SJ but was clear XC. David also did his best dressage test to get 31.5, had 1 down SJ and clear XC.
Great Witchingham 23rd/25th March
Red did his best dressage test to date in the AI at Gt Witchingham and a great double clear meant he finished in 7th place. Paddy also did very well to finish in 10th place. Cooly improved on his dressage from Tweseldown but we decided not to run him before Belton next week. Denny was going well until Tom somehow managed to miss out the last jump in the SJ. Happens to the best of us!
Tweseldown 8th/11th March
It was another good performance from David and Dreamer in the BE100 with them both finishing in the top 10 after both jumping double clear. It was also Cooly, Red, Paddy and Denny’s first event of the season. Red, Cooly and Paddy did well for their first event in the OI with them all jumping well and going clear XC. Denny did well in the Intermediate to finish 8th after a good dressage test and a clear XC.
Isleham 4th/5th March
It was a good start for David and Dreamer in the first event of the season with both of them finishing in the top 10. It was Dreamer's first ever event and she started with a good dressage mark of 31.5 and then got a doulble clear inside the time to finish 4th. David also did well to finish on his dressage score to be placed 9th. Next for both of them will be Tweseldown next week in the BE100.
